1965 Aston Martin DB5 Sierra Blue (RHD)

Beautifully restored to its original specification, this is a superb example of what many consider to be the most iconic of all British grand tourers.  Stripped down to its ‘Superleggera’ framework during restoration, the car is now presented in metallic Sierra Blue with black leather upholstery and carpets and is an outstanding demonstration of restorative craftsmanship.

Our car was first registered on 1 January 1965.  Built with a ZF 5-speed gearbox, the factory ’build sheet’ records the car being finished in Sierra Blue, a dark metallic blue, with black Connolly leather upholstery.  Built towards the end of 1964 it was purchased from CH Truman and Co of Mansfield Road, Nottingham, by Harold Wilson (Insurance) Ltd, the build sheet noting the car had chrome wheels with ‘3-ear’ hubs, a heated rear screen and a Motorola radio and power aerial.

Launched in September 1963 and in production until 1965, a total of 1,059 DB5s were sold, 923 being the 2+2 coupé.  Using the all-aluminium, 4.0-litre DOHC ‘straight-six’ engine from the DB4 Vantage and a ZF 5-speed gearbox, the DB5 used the Superleggera (‘super light’) patent of attaching aluminium panels to a structural framework of small-diameter steel tubes.  Standard equipment included chrome wire wheels, an oil cooler, electric windows and a fully leather-trimmed cockpit.

This superb restoration is testimony to the high degree of craftsmanship needed to return a 52-year-old classic to ‘better than showroom’ condition.  The car was stripped back to its chassis and Superleggera framework before being painstakingly rebuilt in our workshops.

If you‘d like more information about the car or would like to arrange to come and see it, please contact us, we’d be delighted to talk to.
