This is, simply, a stunning car. A beautifully restored Ferrari 246 GT Dino presented in Azzurro Metallizzato with beige leather upholstery and matching carpets. With ‘matching numbers’ and a fully documented history, this exquisite example of a truly iconic Ferrari is a tribute to the skills of the restoration team, fully justifying it winning its class in the Ferrari Owners’ Club 2015 National Concours and then a gold medals in both the 2016 and 2017 National Concours.
Our car is a 1973, left-hand drive, E-Series Ferrari 246 GT Dino built to European specification, the car originally being finished in Rosso Corsa with black vinyl upholstery and trim and fitted with Daytona seats and Cromodora alloy wheels.
Supplied new in May 1973 by Garage La Rotonda, the Ferrari dealership in Prato, near Florence, the car’s first owner, Alessandro Degl’Innocenti, kept the car for three years before returning it to Garage La Rotonda. In July 1977 it was sold to Vincenzo Corsano who kept the Dino for six years during which time it was refinished in black with a beige leather interior. The car’s third owner was American Adams Hudson, who saw the car parked on a Florence street with a ‘For sale’ sign in the windscreen and ‘just had to buy it’. Shipped back to the USA, Adams sold the car to Anthony Ereddia of Georgia in 1984; Anthony owning it until 1988 when he sold it to Steven Piantieri of Orlando, Florida. Steven kept the car for nearly twenty-two years, enjoying every minute of his ownership and maintaining it fastidiously. It was partially restored during the early-nineties, the engine being rebuilt by a Ferrari dealership and the car given a bare-metal respray in a metallic blue.
In 2010 the car was bought by Simon Campbell, of Bell Classics, for his own personal use. Between 2013 and 2015 the car was completely restored to its original specification, exceptional care being taken to ensure that everything, down to individual fasteners, was period-correct. The car received another bare-metal respray in authentic Azzurro Metallizzato, the metallic light blue used on Dinos, and fully retrimmed in beige Vaumal Luxan Connolly leather with matching beige carpets, the dashboard being recovered in ‘mousehair’. The restoration was fully documented and photographed in detail; all of the supporting documentation and invoices have been retained and the car is complete with its original owner’s pouch and manuals, tool kit, jack and bag.
This car is probably one of the finest, most authentic examples of what has become one of Ferrari’s most instantly recognisable and iconic classics, the Ferrari 246 GT Dino. A showcase of restoration excellence, exceptional attention to detail and exquisite detailing resulted in the car winning the Ferrari Owners’ Club 2015 National Concours and receiving a gold medal in the 2016 National concours.
